Texas Wildlife Management Tax Valuation
Since 1998, landowners with an agricultural exemption on their land have had the option to manage their property for wildlife, and keep the same low tax valuation.  Over the last decade, several thousand landowners have chosen wildlife management.  This option is very practical for non-resident landowners, first generation landowners, and long time Texans who may not desire to raise cattle or other livestock.
Managing for wildlife can be very rewarding, both financially and personally. From the financial perspective, you will enjoy the same low tax valuation as traditional ag, and you will increase the value of your property.  Good stewardship promotes increased biodiversity and healthier land contributing to higher resale values.  From the personal side, wildlife management allows you to attract a greater variety of wildlife to property, including turkey, songbirds, foxes, and other wildlife.

Establishing An Agricultural Tax Valuation
For property that has lost the Agricultural Tax Valuation, it may be possible to re-establish an ag valuation.  Preservation Texas can work with you to determine eligibility and develop a plan to establish ag on your property.  Be forewarned - the process to move back into ag takes five years of agriculture history.
