 Wildlife
Owning property in rural Texas has many benefits, among them getting to experience our abundance of wildlife.  Over 600 species of birds have been found in Texas, more than any other state.  If your property qualifies, you can manage your land for wildlife and receive a lower tax valuation. Even if you do not qualify, you can still be a good steward of your land.

Food, Water and Shelter - Basic Essentials for Healthy Wildlife

There are many things you can do on your property to promote healthy wildlife.  Start first with the basics - food, water, and shelter.  Consider the wildlife found on your property, and determine what you can do to help them the most.  Preservation offer a wide variety of products to help you with the basics:

  • Wildlife waterers - these devices collect rainwater and feed it into a watering pan.  Birds and small mammals will greatly benefit from supplemental water, especially in our hot, dry summers.  For bird lovers, consider adding a solar powered pump to create a flow.  The sound of moving water will attract more birds.
  • Wildlife feeders - bird feeders and turkey feeders are two of out most popular products for wildlife.  If feeding deer, we follow Texas Parks & Wildlife recommendations for a high protein supplemental food source.
  • Nest boxes - Our line of nest boxes covers wrens, titmice, chickadee, blue birds, woodpeckers, screech-owls and more.  East of the Rockies, Purple Martins rely completely on humans to provide nesting sites.  Consider a bat box to cut down on the summer mosquito population!
